Bristol Big'Uns
Welcome to our forums. The Bristol Big'Uns are a group of people who enjoy fantasy, science fiction and historical wargames. We tend to play mostly table-top wargames but you will sometimes see CCGs, CMGs, RPGs or board games. If this sounds like a hobby you currently enjoy then why not come along. The club is based at Iron Acton, between Bristol and Yate, in the recently refurbished Parish Hall and is held Sunday evenings from 6 pm until 10 pm. There are tables and chairs available plus various sized scenic mats and terrain for table-top wargames. Please bring with you any drinks or snacks that you require.

The whole year? I didn’t realise it had been that long for some people.
Maybe next year when the lockdown is finally over, we could arrange for a whole day/weekend of gaming so that everyone can have a chance to get a game or two in. Kind of like a celebration or renunion type event.

Club Discussion » Merry Christmas and Happy New Projects for 2021 » 14/12/2020 11:08 PM

My main project will be to complete a full company of WWII British infantry in 28mm, already working on my second platoon.

After that, I will resume my original project since coming back into the hobby and that is my Saxon army of Wessex. I’m also looking forward to see what mythical beasts I can add to it for war and sorcery.

Along the way I’ll be trying to ready all the random monsters I’ve accumulated for D&D.

If I get anywhere with these then I’ll start a WWII Wehrmacht platoon for CoC.

They look really good from the pictures but without seeing them in the flesh it’s hard to say if they’d look like that on arrival.

Anyone up for a game against my British?
I'm starting a campaign against Nige soon and could do with the practice.

Club Discussion » Gaslands Refuelled » 30/11/2019 11:10 PM

I’ve never played Gaslands but my inquisitive mind always wondered from afar what the game must be like. With the release of Gaslands Refuelled, my curiosity peaked and I bought a copy at BIG today.
I’ve never seen anyone play Gaslands at the club but I’m sure there must be a few of you who have played. If so, would you be up for a game sometime. I figure it would be better for me to learn the game playing people with experience rather than going in completely green.

I’ve been to see it and it’s definitely worth a watch. Id say that it was the best one since the second film.

Simon, will your boys be joining us?

Arranging Games » Next D&D game. » 08/6/2019 2:47 PM

At the last session we discussed the 30th of June for our next game. As always, if we can get a majority attendance then we can go ahead with this date. Just le me know here if you can make the date. Cheers.

The half-orc survived and the next game is on the 26th.

I don’t know anything about Dreadball but sure, I’ll give it a go. Cheers.

Arranging Games » Game for 14/04/19? » 11/4/2019 9:21 PM

I was hoping for a game of War and Conquest but failing that, I have an old Imperial Guard army that I could dust off for a game of 40K if anyone wants a game/easy victory.
I am a few editions behind and haven’t played in over a decade but willing to relearn.

Arranging Games » War and Conquest on Sunday 14th? » 09/4/2019 9:07 PM

My Saxons have had a long rest after their last victory. Anyone want to wake them up?

Arranging Games » Romans Vs Ratkins ed » 09/4/2019 11:39 AM

There was a company that made official Asterix miniatures back in the 90’s. I’ve tried to track them down but they are as rare as rocking horse excrement and therefore priced accordingly on eBay.

That’s not a problem Alan.
You’re always welcome to join in should you change your mind.

Club Discussion » Dungeons & Dragons » 19/3/2019 6:55 AM

Once everybody’s emailed me a photo of their character sheet, I’ll put a post up on here showing who’s playing what. I can’t remember of the top of my head what class everyone went for.

Club Discussion » Dungeons & Dragons » 16/3/2019 5:53 PM

I’ve printed 20 out (that should do for now) I’ll bring them along tomorrow. It would make sense for everyone to use the same format of sheet throughout the game so that it’s easier for all of us to be able to find the information easily. If people want to use their own style (there are plenty of variations out there) then that is also fine.

Club Discussion » Dungeons & Dragons » 09/3/2019 8:21 AM

Also, if everyone could post on here (if they already know) what class they intend to play as so that we can gauge the balance of the party then that would be helpful.

If anyone is unsure of what they’d like to play then they can peruse the rulebooks and supplements that I’ll bring with me on the 17th or the 24th.

It’s not vital that we have characters rolled up before the 24th, i’d just like as many done as possible before we start playing. With so many interested it would take a while if we were to do them all at the same time.

Also see my post on the thread in Club Discussion for additional information.

Club Discussion » Dungeons & Dragons » 06/3/2019 4:10 PM

So we have quite a bit of interest. I’m looking to make a start on 24th March. Nigel has started a thread in the arranging games section so we can discuss further dates in there.
With the amount of people playing and other games running, I’m not expecting everybody to make it to every single game that we do, likewise we can’t possibly maintain frequent sessions if we only go ahead with the full group present. To get around this problem, anyone absent can opt to have their character played by either the Dungeon Master or another player. Of course, anyone not able to participate on the start date of March 24th can join the party as and when they become available.

I’ll be playing Bolt Action on the 17th but I’ll bring my D&D books and supplements and after my game I can sit with anyone who’s present and wants to start playing on the 24th. This way we can begin play as soon as possible on the 24th.

If anyone has any questions then feel free to ask.

Club Discussion » D&D » 05/3/2019 4:51 PM

Hi Dave. We’re in the motion of starting a new D&D campaign to be played monthly at the club. Are you interested in taking part?

Club Discussion » Dungeons & Dragons » 03/3/2019 10:11 PM

There are a few of us that are keen on playing D&D at the club and I am looking to Dungeon Mastering using the old 1st Edition Advanced D&D Rules.

We are thinking of playing it once a month so as not to interfere with the other games we like to play regularly and to allow for the amount of preparation that needs to happen between games.

If you would like to participate then please comment on this thread so that we can gauge the level of interest and further plan to start it up.

It was a great game. I’m keen to play again on Sunday if you’re happy to let me commandeer one of your S-boats again?

Does anybody have any plastic knight body parts they don’t need? In particular, I’m after a torso and legs that aren’t attached

Club Discussion » Skeletons » 09/12/2018 8:47 PM

Well, after the hardest fought eBay battle of my life; I just managed to secure 2 sprues of said skeletons for a fairly hefty price.

Club Discussion » Skeletons » 05/12/2018 11:26 PM

Had a look on their website today, they’re not on there yet. I’ll be eagerly awaiting their appearance on Warlords newsletter.

Club Discussion » Skeletons » 04/12/2018 9:02 PM

Great news. I have some of the Wargames Factory (through Warlord) Saxons and Orcs. While they’re much more fragile than, for example, Gripping Beast or Games Workshop models; their customisation options are second to none.
