Bristol Big'Uns
Welcome to our forums. The Bristol Big'Uns are a group of people who enjoy fantasy, science fiction and historical wargames. We tend to play mostly table-top wargames but you will sometimes see CCGs, CMGs, RPGs or board games. If this sounds like a hobby you currently enjoy then why not come along. The club is based at Iron Acton, between Bristol and Yate, in the recently refurbished Parish Hall and is held Sunday evenings from 6 pm until 10 pm. There are tables and chairs available plus various sized scenic mats and terrain for table-top wargames. Please bring with you any drinks or snacks that you require.

Well I think I will go either Marauders or Vermyn
Will read some extra background first though.

Of the two, from looking at the larger scale models Marauders seem more likely..

Will try and track down a firefight or deadline book to get some background info

So that kickstarter has closed

I backed at Sargent level and will add on stuff in pledge manager later to spread the cost.

Faction wise the original 4 were of no interest. However the 4 unlocked versions are more to my taste.
At the moment I like the look of the marauders but will wait to see what the nameless look like.

What is everyone else after??

Having played the GW space marine and epic games with Andy Phillips I am looking forward to seeing how this game works out.

Nearer the time we can start a slo gro paint and play and then do some sort of interplanetary campaign. 😃

Hope others will want to join in.

The idea would be to share the terrain out.
It’s not a club purchase  as Steve pointed out we do have some card buildings from drop ship commander.

Do I assume those who have already pleaded can amend their pledges or pull out so we can do the one?
Don’t know enough about kickstarter

A few of us were talking about Epic Warpath at the weekend and perhaps sharing some costs to get some better value

Items discussed included

The mega STLs deal (although this requires someone to commit to printing them out so there is an extra cost)

The mega buildings bundle

No doubt some other madness!

Anyone interested - shout out.

Currently I haven't backed it, but that might change once I get a better idea of who is buying in.

So, I know this got discussed on messenger and Facebook but who has bought into it?

What you pledging, what factions are you after.

I haven't but am looking at it. If I can use my GW Epic Space Marines then might be on a winner if I just buy the rules and tokens later

There doesn't seem to be any stretch goals as such except for when they raise enough money you can choose Vermyn instead of one of the other factions

Title says it all

This is got course an attempt to stimulate activity on the forum.

However this year I shall continue painting my mammoth Trojan wars project, possibly take a diversion into my Harry Potter stuff, definitely play some more Judge Dredd Hester Skelter (if you fancy a try just shout out) and continue the Quest of the Fellowship with Andy Graham.
I would like to get back to painting and playing the Star Wars collecion as well.

On the Scarab front I definitely want to get the rewrite for the War & Sorcery add-on back on line, along with some army lists for Orcs,/Goblins, Dwarfs and Dark Elves, plus whatever then follows.
New stuff for Projekt X would be good, the rules are kind of taking shape I just need time to write them and I really like the background I have created, again, I just need time to actually write it.

I owe Andy Phillips , John Oman and Matt Smith (among others) games, which I already look forward to even though they are not actually arranged yet!

No doubt something else will distract me, as What A Cowboy did this year!

Whats everybody else planning?

I (as in Scarab Miniatures) have been asked by a fellow club mate to get him a copy so if anyone else wants a copy let me know - there will be a 15% discount off RRP, possibly more depending on how many orders I get. - the only 'space' ships I have are the drop ships from the old space marine game!

As I posted on your Facebook page fi there's anything we can do as some form of game or activity then let us know. I appreciate that due to the timescale you have some other priorities on the list and I hope you Gert as many ticked off as you can.

I will run some fund raisers for the charities you noted on your webpage once its practical to do so. Did a few things similar in the past and want to do so again. 'Wargamers Against Cancer'

I might take an interest I the Carnevale stuff but I best take a proper look at the rulebook you let me have first

Thanking of you.

My main project will be to complete a full company of WWII British infantry in 28mm, already working on my second platoon.

If I get anywhere with these then I’ll start a WWII Wehrmacht platoon for CoC.

Note one of my distractions is WW2, I do have painted Germans in 28mm, if you have a platoon list I would be interested to see if my models and the list match up - if yes, there's a game in the bag and an easy victory for you

After that, I will resume my original project since coming back into the hobby and that is my Saxon army of Wessex. .

Excellent - Attention Simon and Ed, with Jordans Saxons and my Vikings we can play a doubles game..

I need to add to my list - finish the weapons and basing for my vikings

As for beasts for the Saxons, mammoths may be on the cards, and some form of wyrm/ dragon

Ectar - match Ed unit for unit on the Viking vs Saxon front, once we get a game in you will be more motivated... Probably best idea you use my Vikings against Ed and I will help

Ed - more rats .. no surprise

Look forward to playing with and against you both during 2021

Well the title is self explanatory

In 2021 I am focused on the following projects - I accept other new ones might arrive or distract me

The Siege of Troy - this is the big one and may not finish in 2021, circa 1000 infantry and 72 chariots all in 28mm. Its around 50% painted, plus I have 5 buildings and 5 ships to paint and terrain boards to repair plus a beach section to build (The walls of Troy and other building were completed a long time ago). The game last had an outing in 2002 using mainly other peoples figures (Alan Perrys and mine to be exact!)

Persian army - in 28mm to fight my Greeks. I have most of the models, its just about getting on with it.

Harry Potter game - again, got it, started actually painting the models, trying a game via Skype soon. Then it will either be a focus for 2021 or on eBay

Middle Earth - once covid restrictions get lifted there's a campaign to continue with Andy Graham and other battles to fight and painting to continue

War & Conquest/ Sorcery - lots of fun here to be had - looking forward to clashing against Andy Phillips Orcs again plus as many WAC games as possible!

Distractions - WW1 WW2 and Project X plus whatever else I may have forgotten - there's also a number of nice models I have found while clearing the loft which will drop on the painting table - I am definitely trying to avoid Star Wars Legion even though we are enjoying the Mandolorian on Disney

Thats a good question which would also include the mats, - and possibly we may need to bring our own kit for a period of time.

I am sure Dreads will secure an answer

If the club finances allow - I would formally propose the first one or 2 weeks the club is open be free, so that members can return, we can ensure procedures are being followed and then get games organised etc etc.

Accessing the club terrain store will need to be thought about, perhaps bring our own for a while or limit those contacting it?

Members who haven't seen this thread or pick up on us being open via word of mouth then have an opportunity to find out what's going on

Then we can start paying for Daves next army, whoops I mean paying the club fees

In all seriousness, many thanks to Dave, Steve and John for posting information and generally doing stuff.
