Bristol Big'Uns
Welcome to our forums. The Bristol Big'Uns are a group of people who enjoy fantasy, science fiction and historical wargames. We tend to play mostly table-top wargames but you will sometimes see CCGs, CMGs, RPGs or board games. If this sounds like a hobby you currently enjoy then why not come along. The club is based at Iron Acton, between Bristol and Yate, in the recently refurbished Parish Hall and is held Sunday evenings from 6 pm until 10 pm. There are tables and chairs available plus various sized scenic mats and terrain for table-top wargames. Please bring with you any drinks or snacks that you require.

Well some of you may know that my personal situation has changed drastically in the past few months... living in Dorset now, I have no where to paint or play and most of my stuff is in storage several miles away but I am interested in the One Page Rules fantasy skirmish and Grimdark Future Firefight (free equivalent of Kill Team) so will try to paint a couple of small groups of figures for those games. I also hear that Studio Tomahawk are bringing out a WW2 skirmish game this year so I would like to get some stuff painted for that if I can.

The forum is easier to search for specific subjects, in my view, but Facebook works well when arranging games.

Bit of a hefty document but this tidies up and clarifies and lot of things for one of my favourite sets of rules. It also House Rules out the infamous "gun line" of multiple magic users.

Unsure whether to put a force together for this using 28mm plastics or use the large number of 15mm sci fi figures that are in my painting queue...

Always been curious about this type of game, partly because of the chance of using some of the great small scale buildings that are available as terrain. I have the old Aeronef rules tucked away somewhere.

Looking forward to seeing them.
I made a start on my Brits from Irregular today. A few new casts but mostly figures bought ten years ago and never painted, until now

Having skimmed the rulebook a little more I see that my light cavalry should not have received an extra D6 when charging. Apart from their lower cost I am not sure why I would pick them over line cavalry.

I think I should have made use of the evade rule to avoid my cavalry being charged so often.

Early days and it is good to learn a new set of rules.

Did I see something in the advanced rules about one Light (Infantry) Division being allowed for the Brits?

So having had an extremely quick scan through the Absolute Emperor rulebook I've been totting up my painted 6mm stuff in terms of points,

Assuming that most units are "Seasoned" but obvious things such as Grenadiers are veteran and Landwehr are conscripts I only have about 100 points worth of Austrians.

Assuming one or perhaps two Corp Commanders my painted Prussians come to around 170-200 points. Still short of the 250 points suggested in the book for competition level play.

My painted French might just about get to 250 points, again depending on the number of CCs and artillery.

My unpainted British might get to 200 points. Its odd that the cost of British artillery is out of line with the other nationalities.

Cheers, Andy

At 6mm my rubbish painting skills only allow me to create units that look vaguely recognisable from a distance, with names written underneath the base just in case i forget whats what

These MDF spaceships look like a cost effective alternative to regular miniatures:

There is an interesting article on Billion Suns website about suggested ship sizes which includes this advice:

"Having your ships mounted on pegs or magnets so that you can temporarily remove the ship allows you to leave the base and flight peg in play, but remove the bulk of the miniature until it can again fit. Having a marker on the base that identifies the heading of the ship allows you to rotate the ship to a place it can fit without losing game state information"

(In case of physical clashes during the battle)

I know very little apart from watching a couple of Youtube videos  but the general message seems to be that any models will do and utility ships and tiny fighters are just as important as larger ships,  even more so in smaller games.

I have an old fleet from Firestorm Armada and have ordered merchant ships plus fighters from Brigade
