Bristol Big'Uns
Welcome to our forums. The Bristol Big'Uns are a group of people who enjoy fantasy, science fiction and historical wargames. We tend to play mostly table-top wargames but you will sometimes see CCGs, CMGs, RPGs or board games. If this sounds like a hobby you currently enjoy then why not come along. The club is based at Iron Acton, between Bristol and Yate, in the recently refurbished Parish Hall and is held Sunday evenings from 6 pm until 10 pm. There are tables and chairs available plus various sized scenic mats and terrain for table-top wargames. Please bring with you any drinks or snacks that you require.

Tanker last night and a campaign

I enjoyed our game last night and I'd be interested in a campaign. I'm going to order the rules (do you want a set Lurkus?) and I wanted to ask if anyone had any relevant miniatures they wanted to sell before I order new stuff?

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

Nigel posted this on a different thread.

Hetzer, it gets small which means it +1 to hit ever time. If it had low profile as well would make it a bit to hard.

We are starting a campaign in June (date to be decided), well as the campaign rules aren’t out yet, we are doing the progression system. The theatre is North Afrika 1942, then onto Tunisia, then Italy, then western front to end. The scale is 15mm.

Tweaks, we’ve binned the extra acquires as that was probably an on the day decision. But we are keeping the +1 to hit idea.

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

Snap! Great Italian minds think alike. The GF9 Tanks are a quick and easy way to add a 15mm tank for What a Tanker at a reasonable cost and look quite straightforward to assemble.

We should capture Cairo on the first day with such splendid iron behemoths.

Have just been reading 'Take These Men' by Cyril Joly, a fictionalised account of the tank war in the desert by a serving officer. He refers to the British using a lot of captured Italian M13 tanks in the period after Beda Fomm and on the retreat from Benghazi when they faced the newly arrived Germans.

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

The Australians used captured M13s painted with a white kangaroo on the turret sides

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

The GF9 'Tanks' kits are repackaged Flames of War vehicles so good detail and easy to assemble.

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

Looking at the german charts, as i would suggest that we all start at level 2 the Pz IIF is a tad of a non starter [they were religated to HQ's by 41 anyway] and the PzIII jumps from the PzIII G with 3.7cm gun to the uparmoured H with short 50mm gun. So it's easy enough to take out the Pz IIF and replace it with the Pz IIIG L/42 50mm [short] as DAK had these rather than the 37mm's. Only thing needs changing is a strike vale of 5 instead of 4. Keeping the armour of 4. This would bring the availablity of tanks at level 2 more in line with what you would actually had.in the forefront of the panzer wedgel

This is going to be my starting tank.

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

Maybe worth starting a new thread on here, so people can sign out if there interested in taking part and post up which side and tank they want to join/take?

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

I suppose the Italian line is rather hampered by lack of options if this campaign moves into 1944

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

I don’t know Andy, your tank crew could be fascists so could stick with the Germans or on the other had they could just be standard Italian army with relations in New York so might switch to the Yanks......just something to think about ;0).

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

Anyone need a set of the rules do let me know, discount applies (15%)

I would be interested in the campaign and again can get the tanks at a discount from North Star so check their website for details of what they have.

I will order my own tank although would probably fancy the Matilda as I always did like the Airfix model!

But anyway will look and see

Kind regards

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

I think only Zvezda do a single plastic 15mm Matilda at the moment (assuming that FoW ones come in unit packs)

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

I'm in - probably British (Crusader) as mid-war German kit doesn't really appeal

Re: Tanker last night and a campaign

Great Kevin.

I’ve started a campaign topic in arranging games to centralise all posts into that topic.
