Bristol Big'Uns
Welcome to our forums. The Bristol Big'Uns are a group of people who enjoy fantasy, science fiction and historical wargames. We tend to play mostly table-top wargames but you will sometimes see CCGs, CMGs, RPGs or board games. If this sounds like a hobby you currently enjoy then why not come along. The club is based at Iron Acton, between Bristol and Yate, in the recently refurbished Parish Hall and is held Sunday evenings from 6 pm until 10 pm. There are tables and chairs available plus various sized scenic mats and terrain for table-top wargames. Please bring with you any drinks or snacks that you require.

Something For the Weekend...

With the Parish Hall closing, I thought it would be prudent if we kept our respective competitive edges honed pending the club reopening by regaling fellow members with what we are up to.

If we could restrict our news to the gaming feats we are undertaking; nobody wants to hear about a decorated lounge…

It might be nice to share your endeavors in this form topic and our Facebook page to reach the widest audience.

Cheers

Re: Something For the Weekend...

Notwithstanding my aspirations regarding painting my 15mm ECW, I found myself craving some Napoleonic action.

Obviously being “Billy No Mates”, at least for the present, I thought I’d try and devise a “pretend friend” to act as a playmate.

Calling on my extensive library of Napoleonic rules and reference books I think not only can I come up with some generic AI actions/reactions I can probably manage some national characteristics to boot.

Cheers for the present.

Re: Something For the Weekend...

Sounds great fun John

I suspect in this modern technological age it will be possible for people to act as opponents and, providing they both have the same set, play board games and other activities - willing to give it a go if practical

Having been reading a series of books about the Mongols (a fictionalised history which is excellent) I decided to write a first draft of a Mongol list for War & Conquest and then perhaps paint an army.

However with only a few Mongol models available I have turned to the over 20 year old Gripping Beast Huns that I primed back in the day and got no further with and started on them.

I do think I need to try some smaller scales for War & conquest, not sure what I have unpainted, but once the garden work is finished I might get chance to rummage in the loft before I go back to work.. (unless we get lockdown but it seems I am a key worker so probably will still be working then)

Other than that, might look at the assembling the Harry Potter models and giving that game a go, plus sorting out the bits for the planned 28mm Persian army  project (some nice plastic on the way) and expanding the Greek forces to fight them.

Then there's the rebooted Trojan project plus WW1 and WW2 ongoing - to much to do wthout even considering Middle Earth!!!

If Ken reads this, we can play Mythic Panethon via email, phone and FaceTime

Re: Something For the Weekend...

I am currently playing Rangers of Shadowdeep solo and it works very well. The Men who would be Kings has the excellent Mr Babbage AI system. There is a free download to enable solo play for Zona Alfa. Also I aint been shot Mum is card activation as are several of the Lardy games so that will probably work well solo. For those of a certain age there are plenty of ideas in Don Featherstone's books.
