Bristol Big'Uns
Welcome to our forums. The Bristol Big'Uns are a group of people who enjoy fantasy, science fiction and historical wargames. We tend to play mostly table-top wargames but you will sometimes see CCGs, CMGs, RPGs or board games. If this sounds like a hobby you currently enjoy then why not come along. The club is based at Iron Acton, between Bristol and Yate, in the recently refurbished Parish Hall and is held Sunday evenings from 6 pm until 10 pm. There are tables and chairs available plus various sized scenic mats and terrain for table-top wargames. Please bring with you any drinks or snacks that you require.

Hi all, date for the Kings of War (and Kings of War curious) players - I'll be running the annual Southwest Clash at BIG on July 20th and 21st of this year. It's £31 for two days, at 2,375 points.

We usually get about 30 players of all levels from across the country. There's tickets available currently, drop me a line if you're interested. I would be happy to lend anyone from the club an army, if required.

Does that mean it’s all Ectar’s fault when I don’t have a fully painted Saxon army in 2022?

That sounds like a busy year Rob. So on the basis I don’t have to hold to anything and it will all change by 2nd Jan...

Mantic Rats, this is now starting to feel like a proper obsession, but rats will be Manticed.

Saxons, really want to get these guys done for WAC so they look as nice as the Vikings on the other side of the table.

Tidy up loose ends, Fiefdoms and Ironjaws need finishing and Abyssal Dwarfs and Basileans need some extra bits.

Lots of Burrows and Badgers and Northumbrian Tin painting joy.

Loads of gaming, and also hoping to get quite a bit more writing in, so may not be as productive on the painting front!

All sounds good. I think masks sound very sensible and have one on order.

Happy to support the cleaning at the end, I work from home so late finish isn’t an issue.

Payment wise the account transfer is probably preferable, not least because cash is generally being used less so getting the exact change could be a bit of a challenge in the current climate.

I have been wondering about numbers, Will there be a need for table booking? Just a thought.

Hi all,

I just wanted to start getting numbers for the next campaign evening so I can work out matches. Remember, it’s 750 points, 2 games and bring a favourite monster to gaming club night😀

Can you let me know below if you will be able to attend.

Thanks

Ed

Hi all,

It’s a while before next month but I just wanted to flag a couple of things:

Points: I had a little reflection on this and we will stick to 750 as planned.

BYOM: so your recent confrontations have woken up a few of the islands denizens, and they ain’t happy! For those that have a monster can you bring one (just one Steve) along. It doesn’t need to be in your army list and it can be from any force, even if it’s not current been 3rd eded. Don’t worry if you haven’t got any. All will be revealed.

I’ll put a message out closer to the time to get numbers, etc.

Morning all,

Looking forward toiling a start on Sunday. At last count we had 9 players signed up for Sunday.

Aim for Sunday is to hand out packs, decided to go old school, and assign territories based on who’s there.

All the games should be on 4 by 4 tables, including the three player game.

For this week we’re playing 500 points and the aim is to get two games in.

Don’t worry if your army currently consists of wooden rectangles!

It would be helpful if you could confirm attendance below.

Thanks.

Hi,

I’ve got a 2k Stormcast kicking around and a bunch of Warcry snake guys on the painting desk, as well as some genestealers. So happy to indulge in some GW games in the new year.

Definitely disappointing.

Are you around on Sunday? I’ll bring a copy of the goblin lists for you so you have a starter for points and stats.

Hope it all goes ok, literally the first time I’ve done something like this😟

Hi All,

I thought I would give you all a quick update, I am intending to get a campaign pack pulled together and on Facebook by next week, but in lieu of that:

I might have miscounted the number of sign ups and we have an odd number of nine. I’m not bothered by this as I have some old WFB rules for games with more than two players, so on any of the campaign nights we have odd numbers I will run a more than two people game👍

The first scenario on 10 Nov will be Dominate, second scenario Pillage.

To make this a proper campaign I have drawn a map and assigned some territories. On the first night I’ll assign territories randomly to players and that will determine who you play for your first game.

The aim of the game is to win territory and there won’t be any complicated geographical rules about who you can challenge, but in the event of a tie break the winner will be the person who has amassed the greatest number of territories that connect directly to each other.

The plan will be to run games every month on the 2nd Sunday until the end of until the end of Feb. However, if you can’t make it feel free to play to play campaign games outside the 2nd Sunday, just let me know the results. In that spirit if you want to play more than one game a month please do, just make sure your opponent agrees and let me know if territory changes hands.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I will post for final head count next week, and don’t worry if you don’t have rules or want to use proxies just come and join in😀

Hi all,

I’ve noticed quite a few green books cropping up on Facebook, and it looks like we’re going to have a busy evening on 10th. Starting to do some prep (there will be limited organisation despite certain individuals’ comments).

For today I am just going pop down a list of people how have signed up:
Andy
Steve
Simon
Simon P
Mike
Ectar
Dave
Rob
Ujkakevin
Yours truly

Let me know if you should either be off or on the list.

Next steps: over the next couple of days a I will find some time to choose 2 of the scenarios, one for the first game, and one for the second. I’ll also do a random draw for opponents and post it up.

Hope you’re all enjoying your new books😉

Anymore takers for games of 3rd ed on 10th of November? We have an odd number at the moment so at least one more would be great, three more fantastic and five... well that would be very special indeed😀

Morning all,

It’s been a while since this was last mentioned. Well the new rules launch is a mere month away and there has been some pockets of activity starting armies. I thought it would be a good idea to put out a bit more info🙂

3rd ed releases on 21st October so we will have the first games for the campaign on 10th November. This allows some time to tinker with lists and read through the rules.

The first evening will be 500 point games, with the aim of getting 2 each in that evening.

After that the intention will be to have subsequent KoW nights on the second Sunday of each month with forces increasing by 250 points a month for the next four months.

I am planning on putting together a little campaign map and allotting territories so the outcomes of each game shape the map.

Can you let me know if you will be taking part in the campaign and if you will be playing on the 10th November so we can do a draw for opponents and make a start on the map.

Thanks

Ed

Random, but a great question. My not that secret, but definitely fourth tier hobby time commitment is Age of Sigmar. GWs sculpts have gone from strength to strength loving Tzeentch, but also a lot of the Empire stuff pre AOS was interesting. I was planning on spending the rest of the year on these projects and then 3rd edition KOW happened and a new season of Underworlds is on its way.
